Description of the assignment

Freestone carried out a spatial-technical analysis of the patrimony, focusing on occupancy, use and functionality.

Gemeente Kuurne

The municipality of Kuurne has an extensive patrimony, largely in its own right. The assignment comprises a total of 34 sites to be investigated. The age of the patrimony is generally old or outdated, just like in many other local authorities. The age and structural condition of the buildings require a lot of maintenance effort and manpower to keep the buildings operational. The use, except of specific buildings, is diverse, and occupancy does not always match the available space. The challenge is to reconcile use and occupancy per building.

With this assignment, the municipality wanted to obtain a comprehensive analysis of the patrimony, which would lead to supported and concrete advice to the municipality about the optimization and rationalization of the patrimony. Freestone did a complete audit and then formulated scenarios on the spatial, technical and organizational level.
